Tawany Gil is a PhD candidate in the Duarte Lab that is part of the Department of Cancer, with the Alfred Hospital - School of Translation Medicine, Monash University . She holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with honours and a master’s degree in molecular biology from the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), where she specialized in molecular diagnostics for brain cancer. With a background in cancer biology Tawany’s PhD research focuses on discovering novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in high-incidence cancers—particularly melanoma, lung, and breast cancer—using antibody profiling and characterizing B cell-mediated immune responses within the tumour microenvironment.
